Brainspotting
“What’s in the brain is in the body, and what’s in the body is in the brain”
We will explore places in your body where you store trauma and have blocks. Brainspotting utilises the brain’s own ability to heal and process trauma through anchoring on gaze spots and having a therapist attune to your own nervous system. This method is beneficial for people who want to address trauma, anxiety, depression, overcome a creative/performance block (in art, sports, business, etc), or to perform/function better and go beyond talk therapy.
Brain spotting steps away from the cognitive, thinking brain to dive deeper into things you can’t necessarily rationalise or talk through. Your body will do whatever it needs to do in order to heal itself and process the trauma. The ultimate goal is for your mind/body to reduce the activation that is happening in regards to what you want to overcome and process.
EMDR
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It’s a form of psychotherapy designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories, anxiety, and PTSD. The therapy accesses past experiences, feelings, and memories that are activating and may be impacting current behaviors, mental health, and processing.
EMDR therapy will create a safe and grounding environment where you can access past activation and memories safely. During this process, EMDR will use bilateral movement like moving eyes side to side, tapping left and right, hearing beats left and right, etc. in order to engage both parts of you brain. This process will engage your body, brain, and memories instead of keeping you in your cognitive/rationalising talk brain, which makes this a great alternative to talk therapy. The process will work on decreasing activation of past memories and working on implanting positive beliefs instead in order to help you be more successful in the future when the anxiety/activation happens in your life.
